Designed for Kumar Shilbhadra in Kishanganj, Bihar, this G+2 residence makes the most of a narrow 26'-7" wide plot, with 1,450 sq.ft. on each floor. The brief was a compact family home that still offers generous outdoor living, from covered parking at ground level to a pool and rooftop lounge above.
The front façade is built up in layers. The upper floors cantilever over the forecourt to shelter two cars, while framed balconies with vertical bars, a concrete-texture panel, mauve accents and a terracotta jaali give the elevation depth and privacy. Along the side, an external timber staircase gives independent access to the upper floor.
The upper levels are where the home opens up. The second floor combines a master suite with dressing, a multipurpose room and a 9' x 14' swimming pool with its own deck, while three skylights bring air and daylight into the floors below. On the roof, a cantilevered canopy with circular skylights shelters a lounge against a stone-clad wall, with solar panels above and planting all around.
